Indian Dance Class at the Costick Center

You may know how to do the fox trot, the waltz or the tango, but now the City of Farmington Hills invites you to learn something entirely new – Indian Social and Recreational Dance.  Not only is the dance style easy to learn, the class also offers an easy fitness workout and a fascinating glimpse into another culture.

The Indian Dance Workshop is scheduled at the Costick Center from 7 – 8 p.m., followed by open dancing from 8 – 10:30 p.m.  All ages are invited to participate.

“You absolutely do not have to be Indian to come to the Indian Dance workshops,” says Farmington Hills resident Bharat Thacker, founder of Nadanta, Inc. a nationally recognized, non-profit Indian dance organization that has won National Folk Dance Championships and has performed around the world.  The classes will feature the easily mastered Indian Raas & Garba folk styles, seen at many Indian weddings and in the recent popular movie “Slum Dog Millionaire.”

To register for classes or for more information, call the Cultural Arts Division at 248-473-1857/1870.
