DEARBORN – Nadanta, Inc., Michigan’s premiere Indian dance organization, will present an original program entitled “Nataraj, The Lord of Dance” at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14 at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn.

Featuring choreography by Nadanta’s award-winning creative director Chaula Thacker, authentic music and costumes, and professional staging, the production depicts the dynamic role of Shiva in Hindu philosophy as expressed by the sacred image of the Nataraj.

“The Nataraj figure is rich with symbolism,” explained Thacker, “showing various activities of Shiva, including his roles in creation, protection, destruction, illusion and salvation. We have chosen to examine and interpret these activities through various forms of dance ranging from classical to ritual and folk.”

Nadanta is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization dedicated to the preservation and performance of Indian dance. In keeping with that mission, the performance interprets the philosophical elements of the Nataraj symbol, rather than the sacred aspects.

Tickets for “Nataraj, The Lord of Dance” are $15, $25, and $45. Information and tickets can be obtained by calling 313-943-2354.
